
Village Market Day and Parade May 16 & 18

Join us for joy & merriment on this long weekend, May 16 & 18. On May 16th the Cumberland Community Forest Society will be set up at 3rd and Dunsmuir with a plant sale and free kids crafts and great info about current projects, and how to sign up to volunteer or contribute. On Sunday we will be doing what we love best – joining in a parade!!! Creatures of the Creek! On Monday May 18th – Join the Cumberland Forest in the May Day Parade! This year our theme is creatures of the creek (and the wetlands!) – swimming salmon, western toads, sparkly scales, damsel flies, moths, bats, blue, green, sparkles and silver. Of course our usual fairies, elves, and furry forest creatures are welcome too! If you need costume support, you can come with neutral base layers and we’ll dress you up – or arrive in full costume and just jump into the fray! 9 am arrival at the Abbey for toads and folks needing costume bits! It will be busy! 1. WATER CARRIERS We’ll have blue fabrics to carry to emulate watery flows and red eggs to carry behind our salmon puppets. Please come dressed in blues/silvers! 2. SIGNS We’ll have CCFS signs to carry with fun creek and wetland messages – dress as you like, or just throw on a CCFS shirt! 3. TOADS We have 20 tiny toad costumes available (arrive wearing green/brown clothing) message [email protected] to book a tiny toad getup. Please come in time to be dressed and ready for a quick rehearsal at 9:30 to learn the tiny toad moves! 4. SALMON Salmon puppet makers – please bring your puppet and wear water colours or black layers 5. MAGICAL CREATURES We also have furs, ears, wolf masks, moth costumes, butterfly head-dresses, gnome masks, fairy crowns and so much more – first come first secure (or message us to reserve your bits!)
