with opening act Amy Muloin & The Alley Flowers Box Office 9pm Music 930pm Garret T. Willie’s second album, Bill’s Cafe, is more than a record—it’s a tribute, a turning point, and a reckoning. Named after his grandfather’s pool hall café in Alert Bay, British Columbia, the album carries the ghosts of home into the bright lights of Nashville. It was there, under the guidance of Grammy-winning producer Tom Hambridge (Buddy Guy, Kingfish, Susan Tedeschi), that Willie sharpened his blues-rock fire into something bigger, bolder, and truer.

Blue Moon Marquee

The Waverley Hotel, 2692 Dunsmuir Ave, Cumberland, BC V0R, Canada

Friday May 15, 2026 Box Office 9pm Music 930pm 19+ Blue Moon Marquee write and perform original compositions influenced by anything that swings, jumps or grooves. A.W. Cardinal (vocals/guitar) and Jasmine Colette (Jasmine Ohlhauser) a.k.a. Badlands Jass (vocals/bass/drums) have played for a vast gamut of crowds at jazz clubs, lindy hop dance halls, folk venues, blues haunts, hospitals, prisons, markets, motorcycle joints, dive bars and prestigious festival stages. The result of 9 years of rigorous crisscrossing Europe and North America is a distinct energy & style from this acclaimed duo. Carving a path through blues, jazz, jump jive, folk, Country, swing and Indigenous soul with an authentic spirit, their sound does not idle easily in one certain category. It stomps and struts through the wilds, conjuring a blend that pulls the different parts of their musical worlds together, taking the tones of early blues, the expressions of jazz, the heart of country, the spirit of folk, the swagger of soul & the rhythm of roll Their gift is they bring all these elements together without anything sounding out of step. They collect the roots and smoothly braid them with lyrics that often touch on the underbelly of society, woven with elements of Indigenous storytelling and poetic cadence. Carolyn Mark: Like her close ally Neko Case (with whom she once traded as The Corn Sisters), Mark is a country girl with a wild streak. Nimbly assisted Britt Hibbert , the settings for these songs are standard acoustic guitars, mandolin and strings, but she fills them with enough devilry and sly humour to draw you in to her bittersweet world completely. In a wondrous voice that's half Kentucky hick, half Rocky Mountain draught, Mark sings of blonde nymphs in lace panties, tedious wives, racy mistresses and knives driven chestward. Opening act: Carolyn Mark and Britt Hibbert

Jesse Roper

Jesse Roper

The Waverley Hotel, 2692 Dunsmuir Avenue, Cumberland, BC

Thursday May 21, 2026 @ The Waverley Hotel Box Office 9pm Music 930pm 19+ Based in Victoria, BC, Jesse Roper is a blues/Americana artist with a penchant for writing modern indie infused blues music and delivering bombastic live performances buoyed by his virtuosic guitar playing. His innate and impressive musical talent has served him well in recent years. It has given him the flexibility to play with soul icon Booker T. Jones, rock veteran Colin James, blues belter Beth Hart, and Canadian legend Burton Cummings, then turn around and headline nightclubs and festivals to younger audiences, and look perfectly comfortable in each scenario. The stage is where Roper shines. It has been his home since overcoming crippling stage fright during his early twenties. Fear is a part of Roper’s past that barely seems real today – especially when you see the in-concert image of a six-string soldier, hair matted to his face, tearing up the stage, without a hint of second-guessing.

THE SLACKERS IN CUMBERLAND FOR THE FIRST TIME - Thurs. May 28th at The Waverley Hotel

The Waverley Hotel, 2692 Dunsmuir Ave, Cumberland, BC V0R, Canada

Thursday, May 28th Victoria BC Ska & Reggae Society is excited to bring Brooklyn NY's ska/reggae kings THE SLACKERS to Cumberland BC for the first time at The Waverley Hotel. The last time The Slackers came to the Island in 2024 we celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival. Through The Slackers' mixed repertoire of music ranging from ska and reggae to soul, R&B, folk, and bossa nova they've managed to capture fans that span the spectrum of music with audiences of all ages. The band also plays with an aggressive edge and their songs veer in themes from the personal to the political. Since forming in 1991, the Slackers have released 16 albums, 5 EPs, and countless singles. They have performed thousands of energetic concerts for their global fanbase and remain unstoppably prolific. In their 2025 releases on Pirates Press Records, the EP “Money is King,” an indictment of the powerful as only the Slackers can do, went straight to the top 25 of the Submodern Reports album list. Their single “My Last Star” was a tribute to Hepcat's Greg Lee, fulfilling the final creative vision of the late singer. The 11-track compilation “Lost and Found Vol.2” had a surprise boogaloo breakout streaming hit with “Diskambobulated.” Opening for The Slackers are one of Canada's most beloved ska/rocksteady groups. Hailing from Victoria, Phonosonics will be on tour with The Slackers for both Island shows in Victoria and Cumberland. Phonosonics have steadily been gaining traction the past 10 years as the go-to band for the old school rocksteady sound you can rarely find in contemporary bands in Canada. They have backed some of the world's best ska/rocksteady and reggae/dancehall artists including Leroy Sibbles of the Heptones and Sister Nancy at the Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival dating back to 2019. In addition to those historic appearances and playing on other major Western Canadian music festivals, they have also received airplay from radio reggae legend David Rodigan's BBC1Extra show dating back to 2016 when they released "Between Two Headphones/Dark Haired Lady" which reached #3 on Earshot's International Music chart. Phonosonics were a choice pick from The Slackers to support their Island shows and they will set the stage for another unforgettable Slackers experience. Now after 27 years of working with the Slackers, Victoria BC Ska & Reggae Society is excited to continue the tradition of Slackers music to future generations.
