Morrison Creek Streamkeepers

A volunteer group working to protect and restore the Morrison Creek watershed. They focus on habitat restoration, monitoring fish populations, and advocating for responsible land-use planning that protects the creek.

Morrison Creek is home to the Morrison Creek lamprey, a fish species that lives nowhere else in the world and is listed as endangered under the Federal Species at Risk Act. The Streamkeepers used to run annual smolt fence operations to monitor lamprey and salmon populations for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, though that’s been discontinued due to declining lamprey numbers.

The group has completed restoration projects along the creek, gathered biophysical data on the watershed, and worked with agencies like DFO and the BC Ministry of Environment on habitat stewardship. They’ve also been involved in land-use planning discussions at all government levels to protect streamside areas.

A recent win: the Morrison Creek Headwaters, 275 hectares of ecologically significant land, was permanently protected through conservation efforts supported by donors, partners, and the community.

If you live near Morrison Creek or care about local watershed health, memberships are available. Volunteers participate in restoration work, monitoring, and advocacy.
