Cat Advocates Teaching & Saving Society (CATS)

CATS started in 2019 with a specific problem in mind: cats being dumped in remote areas around the Valley had nowhere to go. Most rescues focus on lost or stray social cats, but the ones abandoned in the wilderness were falling through the cracks. That’s still the core of what they do — trapping and retrieving cats from remote locations, reuniting them with owners when possible, and finding them homes when not.

From there, they run a full adoption and foster program, a thrift store that helps fund operations, and regular fundraising events around the Valley. The shelter tries to place cats in foster homes rather than keeping them in-house for extended periods, which says something about how they operate.

If you’re looking to adopt, they hold pop-up adoption events and manage a roster of cats available through their website. If you want to volunteer, there’s a wide range of roles from daily cat care shifts to social media to driving the van, so it’s worth checking what fits your schedule. Most volunteer roles ask for a weekly commitment of a few hours.
